PHOENIX (June 4, 2018) – Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) in partnership with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, is offering a program that encourages consumers to retire polluting gas powered lawn mowers in favor of new electric or battery operated lawn mowers.
The Mowing Down Pollution Program provides Maricopa County residents the opportunity to purchase a new electric or battery powered lawn mower when they turn in their old gasoline lawn mower. Participants will receive a $150.00 voucher towards the cost of a new electric or battery powered lawn mower at participating Home Depot stores when their gas powered lawn mower is recycled.
“Maricopa County’s air quality has been getting cleaner for years despite a growing population,” said Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Chucri, District 2. “New technology in cars is a big part of that and now it can be found in products such as lawn mowers. These advancements help us keep the air clean for future generations.”
MCAQD hopes to recycle 2500 gasoline powered lawn mowers which will result in a reduction of approximately 20 tons of pollution.
