University Drive

Higley Road to Power Road

Roadway Improvements

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is constructing roadway improvements on University Drive from Higley Road to Power Road.

Currently, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian accommodations on this two-mile stretch of University Drive do not match the existing facilities outside the project area. Therefore, in accordance with the MCDOT ADA Action Plan and Transition Plan, MCDOT is designing improvements that will create a continuous connection for pedestrians traveling on this roadway.

The project will include:

  • Updating ADA curb ramps and expanding the sidewalk to accommodate wheelchairs at intersections
  • Relocating pedestrian push buttons along the corridor
  • Constructing new sidewalks on both sides of the roadway
  • Reconstructing driveways

VALLEY METRO – Bus Services

Passenger services to all bus stop locations will be maintained during construction, however bus stops will be temporarily placed adjacent to and outside of active construction zones. Coordination with Valley Metro will be ongoing to maintain continuity of services on University Drive. The temporary bus stop locations will be signed to identify the new pickup locations on University Drive.

Information regarding Valley Metro bus routes can be found here. For additional information regarding Valley Metro, visit their website.

Construction will begin in early March, 2024 and is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2024. During construction, occasional road restrictions may be in place to accommodate work.  Please watch for signs, obey restrictions and reduced speeds and allow for extra travel time through the work zone.

Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday during daylight hours, with occasional night and weekend work as needed. No work will take place during holidays. Please obey roadway restrictions, reduced speeds and allow for extra time for travel through the work zone.

**Schedule is subject to change for reasons beyond MCDOT’s control, including: weather, equipment failure, illness or other circumstances.**
