The Maricopa County Waste Resources & Recycling Division's Transfer Stations accept bulk green waste during quarterly collection events at these locations only: Cave Creek, Hassayampa, and Rainbow Valley.

Drop-off Information
Burning household trash is illegal. No burn barrels will be accepted.
Residents
Services are open to all Maricopa County residents; no I.D. is required at our Recycling Centers. Starting October 1, 2019, we will be rolling out a new payment system to accept ONLY debit and credit cards at all Transfer Station facilities. Please note that cash payments will be phased out in October.
When vehicle load is determined, this includes only the "cargo" area of a single vehicle or trailer.

We accept CFC (Freon) containing appliances, however they must be evacuated, compressor removed and tagged in accordance with EPA regulations prior to your visit for disposal. Documentation of that removal must be provided
Aluminum / Aluminum Cans / Tin Cans
All forms of aluminum from window frames to soda cans are accepted. Aluminum cans, pie plates, and tin cans can be placed in co-mingled containers and need not be separated. All other forms of aluminum/metal is considered scrap metal and goes into our metal container.Electronics

Glass
We take clear, brown and colors. All colors of jars and bottles accepted. No broken glass or ceramics.
Paper, Magazines, Newspaper, Cardboard
Shredded paper should be in a clear and tied plastic bag. Please keep your paper products dry. Paper egg cartons are acceptable, as well as all colors of paper.
Plastics
Bottles
Plastic bottles numbered 1‐7 can be recycled at our centers. Empty, rinse and let air dry.
Grocery Bags
Plastic grocery bags are not accepted at our facilities. These can be recycled at your local grocery store (e.g. Target, Walmart, Frys, Bashas) or check the plastic film website.
Separated Recyclables
Please keep the following items separate from all other recyclable material. These items have a separate container at our facilities.
Scrap Metal
Various metal items are accepted for free; however large appliances are accepted for $8 each, such as:
- Air Conditioners
- Dishwashers
- Freezers
- Refrigerators
- Stoves
- Washer/Dryers
- Water Heaters
Tires
Passenger and Truck Tires - limit of 5 tires per visit. Tires must be removed from rim.
Certain Household Hazardous Waste
Only dry cell batteries are accepted recyclables (household batteries i.e. AAA, AA, D, C, 9V). We do not take wet cell batteries (auto/marine/motorcycle).
Oil or Antifreeze
Up to 5 gallons of oil or antifreeze is allowed per visit.

The following is a list of several wastes that are unacceptable at the county's disposal facilities. This list is provided only as a guide to help our customers and should not be considered complete or exclusive of any other wastes that might be regulated or unacceptable for some other reason. Questions regarding the acceptability of a particular waste should be directed to the attendant or Waste Resources and Recycling office at 602-506-4006 or via our online contact form.
Items We Do Not Accept
Prohibited Wastes
- Bulk propane and Freon containers
- Closed or full containers, especially containers with hazardous material
- Commercial quantities of liquid wastes
- Commercial tires
- Dead animals and animal parts
- Friable asbestos-containing wastes
- Industrial wastes
- Infectious wastes
- Fluorescent bulbs containing mercury
- Manure
- Polychlorinated biphenols (PCBs) or wastes mixed with PCBs
- Radioactive wastes
- Waste from shredding motor vehicles - See special waste information for this item
- Waste that contains petroleum contaminated soils - See special waste information for this item
- Wet cell batteries (auto/marine/motorcycle)
Discontinued Light Bulb Program
Effective May 15, 2013, we have discontinued our Light Bulb Recycling Program. Stores such as Batteries Plus and ACE Hardware, or Home Depot or Lowe's will accept light bulbs for recycling.
